Today the Scouts Group of Compton took part in the Districts St. George's Day Parade. This was the first parade the boys have participated in and they didn't know what to expect. I made sure their uniform was all nice and clean and ironed, and Alvin and Shirey came along to watch the boys also. Adam was on a rock climbing course which had already been booked, but he managed to make it for when the boys were taking part in the photos.
The parade marched from St Mary's Church to the Kennet School in Thatcham, and Locks was't very impressed that he couldn't keep his hat on. However, Hawk said he could keep his gloves on, so he was happy with that!
Once we got to the school, we filed in to the hall once all the Beavers, Cubs, Scouts and Explorers had been seated. Not all the parents could fit in (despite having the capacity to be able to seat 200 people), but luckily we managed to get a seat because we were at the front of the queue (thanks Karen for the tip off!). The head Scout person handed out some awards, Hermitage did a little skit on St. George's day and we sang a couple of hymns and all the groups re-took their oaths.
After it was finished, all the other groups left, and Compton was the only area which co-ordinated a whole group photo with Beavers, Cubs, Scouts and Explorers. Once we all got our photos, Akela and Hawk gave the kids a candy each. I think our area are very lucky to have such amazing leaders and the Chantler family is very grateful to them!
